One of the key components of the WOMAD project is working directly with coaches, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to promote gender equality and inclusion in sports. As part of our recent activities, on February 12th we held a dedicated training session for coaches, creating a space for reflection, learning, and transformation.
The project is financed by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission, and coordinated by Minority Leaders for Society – MLS from North Macedonia, in cooperation with Football Club Red Star from Serbia, Football Club O Val de Naron from Spain, and ASD Euromamme from Italy.
The training focused on challenging gender stereotypes, identifying unconscious biases, and encouraging inclusive practices on and off the field. Coaches are often role models for young athletes, which is why their awareness and leadership play a crucial role in shaping a more equitable and respectful sports environment.
⚽ What the training covered:
-
Practical strategies for inclusive coaching
-
Tools for promoting participation among girls and underrepresented groups
-
Open dialogue and experience sharing among participants
The session fostered a strong sense of community among the coaches, who shared their real-world challenges and success stories. Most importantly, it encouraged them to become agents of change within their clubs, schools, and communities.
